Our Cumbrian Breakfast

A Cumbrian Treat

Sit down and relax… Help yourself to freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit, cereals and porridge served with local Swarthmoor Hall Farm organic milk, and that’s just to start.

Free range eggs from the farm next door are cooked to your liking and are served with our seriously good homemade sausages and home cured bacon from our own rare-breed pigs made by hand exclusively for us by The Cumbrian Pig Company, not forgetting the mushrooms and tomatoes slowly roasted in the Aga. Our Cumbrian Breakfast is served with local award-winning Hawkshead Relish condiments and organic hand churned butter from Winter Tarn Organic Farm along with toasted local organic bread from Grange Bakery. Or you can simply have doorstep bacon sandwiches if you prefer.

Although our breakfasts go down a treat with meat connoisseurs, we also make an extra effort for vegetarians (and vegans). Please just let us know in advance if you have any dietary requirements and we will do our best to meet them. You won’t go hungry!

Guests staying in the Barn are treated to breakfast in the privacy of your own suite, we bring breakfast over to you so that you can relax first thing in the morning.

Guests in the main house are invited in the large living kitchen where the food is freshly cooked on the Aga. If you are here on business and want an early start, we can provide you with a continental breakfast for you to enjoy whenever you like.

On sunny days we can serve breakfast in the garden.

"Sam was so hospitable and we couldn't have asked for anything more. Breakfast was fabulous and we brought the bacon home with us!! We have already booked our next stay."

Our Rooms

The Barn Studio
The Round Room
The Garden Room

All our 3 rooms are very different, we use great fabrics and lovely antiques as well as modern furniture (yes, they do mix well!)

We have 2 large rooms in the main house and either have a comfy chair or large sofa so you can relax in privacy. The separate modern barn conversion has both a king-size bed and sofabed/futon. All our beds are huge (king-size) and have deep modern mattresses and are the comfiest you will find for miles! All rooms can accommodate extra beds for children, as long as we know in advance we can make one up for you.

The barn has a modern wet room-style walk-in shower. The main house benefits from large bathroom facilities with power-shower and free standing roll-top antique bath (don’t worry it is beautifully clean).

We have endeavoured to source the best quality toiletries, bedding and towels to complement the luxury country house style that Candlewyck offers. Sedbergh Organic Soaps (they are local, organic and exclusive) are provided in the bathrooms as well as Neom Luxury Organics products around the house and barn. All beds are made up using White Company bedding and the bathrooms are full of fluffy White Company towels.

In order to maintain total privacy and to ensure that you get the special attention that you deserve, we can accommodate 2 separate parties at any one time. This means that we can look after individual guests, couples or families/groups in both the barn and the main house. Please just call to discuss your requirements. The barn conversion gets snapped up quickly therefore please book early to avoid disappointment, especially at high tourist season and when our festivals are on.

"Better than any five star hotel"!

"Myself and my partner Adrian stayed in the barn for 3 nights whils visiting family. The barn itself is gorgeous and very well appointed... It' furnished to a very high standard and was spotlessly clean. The breakfast...well what can I say? It has to be the best breakfast in the UK. "

Welcome to Candlewyck Luxury Bed and Breakfast

Candlewyck is a luxury Bed and Breakfast situated in the southern heart of the English Lake District, set in its own 7 acres of land with views up the valley in glorious surroundings.

As the name may suggest, Candlewyck is a converted "Candle Wyck" factory situated in the historic, south Lakes town of Ulverston. Ulverston nestles between the Lake District National Park (Windermere and the Central Lake District only a 20 minute drive) and the Cumbrian Coast, so whatever you fancy doing there is always somewhere to go or something to see.

We aim to offer a relaxed and friendly service that is not too expensive. Above all we want you to feel at home so that you enjoy your stay in this beautiful country home.

We provide separate luxury accommodation in the barn (it is just like having your own private suite!) and the main house provides 2 king-sized bedrooms of some country house glamour. Both the barn and main house are loved by families, groups, single travellers, couples and all other visitors alike.

Comfortable garden furniture is provided for you to sit and relax in the afternoon and evening sunshine.

The barn even has its own private stream garden to take advantage of the views up the valley and across the 7 acres.

With views up the valley and the town centre (boasting 27 places to eat!) only a 5 minute walk away, Candlewyck provides the best of both worlds and makes the perfect place to stay for a luxury weekend, or if you like it you could spend the whole week!

Candlewyck Farm

Candlewyck also has its own small farm, the rare-breed pigs are often seen wandering the 7 acres (Sam likes to take them for a morning run) and provide seriously good homemade sausages and home cured bacon…

Guests often leave stocked up with our produce as they leave.

All our food is locally sourced, organic where possible, or straight from our farm.
